May is elder law month and today Michael Giordano from Giordano Elder Law is here to talk to us a little bit about what elder law is and who needs to be aware of it. We appreciate you being here. Many of us don't know a lot about elder law and what it is and it's very important so let's just talk about elder law. Elder law is all the areas of law composed of the aging population and incapacitated persons. People at any age should be interested in elder law this would include estate planning which will include preparation of wills trusts, advance directives which would be durable powers of attorneyhealthcare powers of attorney which includes the living will that people hear about and it would also include estate administration which is also known as probateto include long term care planning disability planning how guardianship and elder abuse issues can be avoided you know I sit here and think as you're saying anything at all the things that I have a young family and things that I know myhusband I start to talk about with the wills and everything why is it so important that people really understand elder law and get the ball rolling on getting a will made might you feel that that's something that we all need to do. Well if you don't do proper advanced planning the Commonwealth would be more than happy to step in and make plans for you and make the decisions for you and that can include where your assets go and who would care for your children when you die it could include who will take care you if you become incapacitated those are the kind of things that you need advance planning for and make sure that you have your wish fulfilled and not the Commonwealth's absolutely it's more important to have control of that. if people want to get more information, becuse I know there is a lot and it's a tough subject for a lot of people, where can they go to get more information? I have a number of elder law resources there excellent, we appreciate you stopping by
